IPEDS Award Level Definitions
Important
Information and features vary according to the roles to which you belong and the permissions associated with those roles. For more information, contact your module manager or your campus support team.
Use the page to view and manage IPEDS Award Level Definitions. The award levels are the various degrees and certificates that your school confers on students and reports to the federal Department of Education. You can create, edit, delete, and download definitions.
Jenzabar provides these definitions required for IPEDS reporting:
1A - 0 to 6 months
1B - 6 months to 1 year
1 - Less than 1 year
2 - At least 1 year but less than 2
3 - Associate's Degree
4 - At least 2 years but less than 4 years
5 - Bachelor's Degree
6 - Post Baccalaureate Certificate
7 - Master's Degree
8 - Post-Master's Degree
17 - Doctor's Degree- Research/Scholarship
18 - Doctor's Degree - Professional Practice
19 - Doctor's Degree - Other
You can't delete the provided definitions.
Desktop Location
There is no IPEDS Award Level Definition window in Desktop. The provided definitions appear on the CIP Definition window on the Award Levels tab.
Database Location
The definitions are stored on the IPEDSAwardLevelDefinition table.
The award levels are used on the CIP Definitions page and in IPEDS reports.
Code: Up to 5 characters. Required. Not editable after the definition is saved.
Description: Up to 60 characters. Required.
IPEDS Report Level: Select an option. Required. The options are defined in the IPEDS Report Level Definition table (IPEDSReportLevelDefinition). They're not maintained on a J1 Web page.
Active: The default is Yes. If you select no, then the definitions is labeled inactive in drop-downs.
Display in Drop-Down: The default is Yes.
The permission required to access the page is "Can manage IPEDS award level definitions". It's available in the Manage Definitions category of the Registrars and Registration Module Manager roles and roles copied from them.
From the Registration Administration hub, click the Hub options drop-down, and select Manage definitions > IPEDS award level definitions. The IPEDS Award Level Definitions page opens.
Tip
Or use the universal search on the top right of the page. Select System Page, and enter "IPEDS Award". Click IPEDS Award Level Definitions in the results.
Use the Quick Filters to narrow the list to your search terms.
Click the column headings to reorder the list (ascending or descending) by that column.
To see all the fields, click the Expand icon
.
Click the Create definitions button. The Create IPEDS Award Level Definitions pop-up opens. Use the information in the Fields section above to inform your selections.
Code, Description, and IPEDS Report Level are required.
Active and Display in Drop-Down default to Yes, but you can change them to No.
Click either Create and save another or Create and close.
Click the Edit icon
on the row of a definition. The Edit IPEDS Award Level Definition pop-up opens.
Make your edits. All the fields except Code are editable. Description can't be blank.
Click the Update button.
Delete IPEDS Award LevelDefinitions
Select the checkboxes next to the rows you want to export.
From the Options drop-down, select Download to Excel. The Download to Excel pop-up opens.
Select options for the Excel format and data columns.
Click Download. Your .xlsx or .zip file is saved in the file location that you have set in your browser settings.
