Chart Block

Important

Information and features vary according to the roles to which you belong and the permissions associated with those roles. For more information, contact your module manager or your campus support team.

Chart blocks are a category of custom blocks that let you display information in a visual format such as bars in a bar chart, lines in a line chart, or slices in a pie chart. The information shown is extracted from your system through queries uploaded into J1 Web as chart data sets. Information can include anything in your system such as interaction analytics, recipients with missing or invalid contact information, students with holds or outstanding balances, etc.

Note

If an administrator selects a chart data set that certain users do not have permission to access, the block will not display any information to those users.

Interaction Analytics

Chart blocks can be used to visually show information about your interactions.

A Chart block may show email status from SendGrid, which allows you to monitor your email communications and insight into whether messages have been opened, blocked, or encountered other delivery events. Detailed technical information about each of these statuses is available on Twilio's website: https://www.twilio.com/docs/sendgrid/for-developers/tracking-events/event.

Account Status Change

Your account status changed because of issues related to compliance with SendGrid's terms of service. This can happen when SendGrid identifies abnormal activity such as phishing, elevated spam rates or other potentially bad behavior. For more information on account statuses and what to do, refer to SendGrid's .Account Under Review documentation.

  • To manage blocks, a user must belong to a module role with the Can manage blocks permission available and enabled. These are typically module manager and administrator-level roles.

  • There are no unique roles and permissions required to view blocks. Users only need to belong to a module role. For example, to see blocks on the Employee Hub's Summary page, users must belong to an Employee role.

  • For Chart and Data Set List blocks, users can only see information in the block when a data set they have permission to is selected. For example, if a user doesn't belong to a role with access to the course catalog data set and that's the one the block is configured to use, the block will appear blank.

To access a block, navigate to the Hub Summary page using the search feature or by clicking on Summary under a module name in the left-hand navigation menu.

  1. Access the Hub Summary page with the Chart block you want to update.

  2. From the Chart block, click the Edit icon.

  3. Update the Block Title, Detailed Description, Data Set, and/or Chart Type selected.

    • Block Title appears for all users accessing the Hub Summary page. It provides a brief headline describing the information shown.

    • Detailed Description appears for all users accessing the Hub Summary page and lets you add information and context to the data being shown.

    • Data Set determines what information is shown in the chart. Only simple chart queries uploaded to the Data Sets page can be selected. If you are not seeing a query you expect, verify you belong to a role with permission to access it.

    • Chart Type lets you decide the chart format. Some queries can only support donut and pie charts while others can support bar charts.

  4. To update or add data parameters, click Configure parameters. Configure Parameters window appears.

  5. Click the Save button.

Disabling a block means users will no longer see it unless they have permission to manage blocks as well. You can re-enable it to make content available again.

  1. Access the Hub Summary page with the block you want to disable.

  2. From the Block settings drop-down options, select Manage blocks. The Manage Blocks window appears.

  3. Change Enabled to Disabled for the block you no longer want available.

  4. Click the Update button. The block is disabled.

Anyone with access to the Hub Summary page with the Chart block on it. If a user doesn't have access to the data set being used to show information in the chart, they will not see anything.

You likely don't have access to the data set selected. Work with your IT Administrator or campus support team to verify you belong to a role that has been granted access to the data set on the Edit Role and Data Sets pages.

Only users in a role with the Can manage blocks permission available and enabled. These are typically module manager and administrator-level roles.
