Database Location
Advising requirement types are stored on the Requirement Type Clusters table (req_type_clusters.adv_req_type).
The types are used on the Advising Requirements (ARC) Definitions page. Each ARC has a type. The types are integral in creating curricula, programs, and student academic plans.
Type: The code or abbreviated name of the advising requirement type. Up to 5 characters. Required. Type and Description usually appear together.
Description: Up to 45 characters. Required. Type and Description usually appear together.
Cluster: Up to 2 characters. Required. The cluster codes are predefined. Each type must be mapped to one of these:
R Root: Roots are attached to student aims.
G Group: Groups include several courses or other requirements.
C Course: A requirement that's met by coursework
CC Cumulative Credit: A requirement that allows credit to accumulate each time a course is successfully repeated. This is used for music practice courses, for example, where a student can take the same 1-credit course each term for, say, 5 terms. So the requirement reports 5 credits for the repeated course.
CT Course Totals: A requirement that reports an unduplicated total of all credits that a student has earned.
O Other: A requirement that's not automatically evaluated. It's satisfied by placing a record in the Student Advising Alterations table for the requirement with any credit or status information to be applied to the requirement.
U RBU: Uses the Rules Based Update code to set up noncourse requirements.
Print Order: The priority for displaying and printing the requirement type. The lower the number, the higher the priority. The default priority is 100. Enter or select numbers 0 to 999.
Priority: The priority for calculations. Enter numbers 0 to 9.
Tip
Priority matters in Advising Trees (and only for course and cumulative course types). The priority for course and cumulative Course types here is the default priority for course and cumulative course requirements in advising trees. You can adjust the priority for an individual course wherever it appears in an advising tree. There, the priority affects which requirement is met by the course if the course appears in a tree more than once.
Tip
For types other than course and cumulative course, it's convenient to set the Priority to 0. Priority matters only for courses and cumulative courses, so setting the priority of the other types to 0 reminds everyone that priority is not at play.
Print: Select the checkbox if you want the requirement type's information available for printing.
Display: Select the checkbox if you want the requirement type's information available for display.
Note: Up to 30 characters.
