Authentication Order for Single Factor Authentication (SQL Server and/or Network Authentication)

Note

J1 Web utilizes the same user authentication method your school uses with the Desktop application. If your school uses SQL Server to authenticate Desktop users, J1 Web will use SQL Server to authenticate J1 Web users as well.

This setting is available when SQL Server and network credentials are used to authenticate users. It determines the order in which users will be authenticated. For example, you can determine if network domains be verified and then SQL Server or SQL Server and then network domains.

Methods vary according to the authentication method being used by the Desktop application.

Authentication Method

Available Settings

SQL Server (standard)

None. Only the authentication method is shown.

Network Credentials (integrated)

Add and remove network credential domains.

Both SQL server and network credential (mixed)

  • Add and remove network credential domains

  • Determine what order the credentials will be verified when the user logs in to J1 Web (e.g., Windows first, then your added domains or vice versa)

Detailed information about Desktop authentication methods is available in the Desktop Online Help.

JICS Authentication options are available when integrated or mixed network credentials are used. These configurations allow Campus Portal users to log in to J1 Web using their Campus Portal credentials. Most JICS users must already be in J1 Web as users; however, an option is available to allow employees who used the Campus Portal to manage their timesheets and may not be J1 Web users to log into J1 Web with just their JICS credentials and automatically be added as J1 Web users. This cuts down on manually adding multiple users who may not be in Desktop as users with the option to be added to J1 Web.
