Overview

The purpose of this summary page is to provide a list of pages and terms commonly used for Development, Advancement, or Fundraising. There may be other pages or terms that individual SONIS member institutions use, depending on their policies or procedures.

Development Pages

Activities: Used to track volunteer plans, mailing inclusion, emails, and any other development activity.

Balances: The giving history and amounts owed or paid can be viewed on a constituent's Balances page.

Bulk Payments: Payments can be applied in groups or batches on the Bulk Development Payments page.

Constituent Contact: A constituent's contact and tax information may be maintained on Biographic, but their corporate/business status or corporate/business contact details should be entered and maintained on the Constituent Contact page

Constituent Information: A constituent's giving potential, planned gifts, and giving history are maintained on the Constituent Information. This record is unique to constituents.

Constituent Rating: Is used for defining a rating system, or systems, to be used with Constituent Information.

Cultivation Activities: The Cultivation Activities page provides the ability to track activities that are undertaken to encourage a strengthened giving relationship between the constituent and the institution.

DE Annual Comparison: A fundraising assessment tool. This search is used to see who contributed to events and/or funds, and the date(s) associated with the contribution.

DE Events: When a constituent makes a pledge toward an event, or volunteers to complete a task for an event, these actions are recorded as Development Events.

DE Funds: Is provided to create and associate funds with pledges and pledge payments for fundraising and development activities.

Event Management: Provides the ability to manage development and fundraising events by assigning activities to them and inviting constituents to attend them. If desired, this functionality can be used to manage any institutional events.

Fundraising: The Fundraising page is used to record the date a staff member began assigned fundraising duties, as well as the date the duties ended.

Giving History: The history of a constituent's giving is presented as a ledger on the Giving History page.

Giving Levels: The ability to give at a high level is often recognized through the use of a named ranking system, such as "President's Circle" or "Wildcat Winners". The Development Giving Level page can be used to define giving levels within SONIS. An amount range can be set for each giving level, as well as a date range, so this can be used for all development activities, including short-term or topic-specific campaigns.

Interests: Recording a donor or prospect's interests is an important part of development work.

Payments: The Payments page of the Users menu allows users to enter pledge payments or one-time payments made by constituents. As pledge payments are entered, they can be associated with events.

Pledge: When a constituent makes a financial commitment toward a fundraising or development activity at a SONIS member institution, it is recorded as a Pledge.

Pledge Activities: Pledge activities are standard Activities that are triggered when a development activity such as a pledge, payment, or volunteer activity occurs.

Summary: Fundraising: The Records menu item Summary: Fund Raising provides users the ability to view summary data from many fundraising pages within SONIS in one location.

T-Codes Mapping: Financial transaction codes (T-Codes) are associated with pledge payments using Development Pledge: T-Codes Mapping.

Void Pledges/Payments: Provides the ability to remove previously recorded pledges and/or payments.

Volunteer: Jenzabar SONIS member institutions that provide volunteer opportunities to constituents can record an individual's participation in volunteer activities on the Records menu page Volunteer.

Common Development Terms

Definitions of development terms are provided for understanding the SONIS development functions and should not be considered the only definitions applicable to development work, nor the only terms used within SONIS development functions.

A constituent is a contributor of money and/or time to a development activity. The default SONIS code for a constituent is CO.

Activities are tasks that are assigned to staff and/or actions that should be tracked. Administrators can share an activity with students, faculty, constituents, alumni, applicants, and prospective students and generate reports to show what has been done and what needs to be done. Activity-specific mail-merge files and email lists can be created.

Cultivation Activities are actions taken to elicit constituent involvement with the institution.

Events are organized fundraising activities that a constituent makes a pledge toward, or a task that constituents volunteer for, such as an alumni golf tournament or a call-a-thon.

Volunteers complete ongoing tasks such as calling alumni for funds, tutoring, or serving as an officer in a society of the school. Volunteer participation is recorded and associated with an event.

A pledge is a commitment made by a constituent to provide funds to an event or activity. Pledges may be one-time or ongoing.

Pledge Activities are standard activities that are triggered when a pledge, a payment, or the like, occur.

Pledge Payments are payments made toward a pledge, as well as one-time payments.

Payment History is the recorded timeline of any pledges and payments made by a constituent.

Balances show the unpaid amount of pledges.
