Use the procedures in this section to accomplish other tasks in your public and private groups.
Managing the Layout of the Group's Context
If you need to make any changes to the layout for a particular group’s context, you can do so just like you would in any other context. For details, see the Managing Tabs, Pages, and Subsections section.
Monitoring Usage of a Group Context
If usage-statistics logging has been activated, then you can check the Usage Statistics feature to see which members of the group are most active, and so forth. For details on the Usage Statistics feature, see Usage Statistics.
Navigate to the context for the appropriate group.
The system displays the default page of the course context.
In the left sidebar, click the link that says Group Directory.
The Group Directory displays.
Depending on which members you want to email, take one of the following steps:
To email selected members of the group, first make sure Selected is showing in the Email list, and then select the checkboxes next to the members you want to email.
To email the leader of the group, select Leader from the Email list.
To email a member of the group, select Member from the Email list.
Click Open email.
An email form displays.
Complete the email as you see fit.
Click Send. The system sends the email to the users’ preferred email addresses.
Members can proactively leave groups, or a leader or administrator can drop members. This procedure explains how to drop them.
Note
Note the following:
When you drop a member, the system does not send that person a notification.
You cannot drop a leader from a group. If you really want to drop a leader, you should first reclassify the person as a Member, or as another role (using the Role drop-down list, described in Change a Member’s Role).
Navigate to the Manage This Group screen, as described in the Navigate to the Manage This Group Screen section.
In the list of members, locate the person you want to drop and click the corresponding Drop member link.
The system displays a dialog asking if you are sure you want to drop the member.
Click OK.
The system drops the person from the group.

In the list of members, locate the person whose role you want to change. Using the Role drop-down list, choose the appropriate role.
Click Save changes.
