Other Changes Related to the Resources Portlet
The following sections explain how the new Resources portlet has impacted CCI cartridge imports, Deep Linking media types, Usage Statistics, and the Global Sidebar Links database table. The ramifications of deleting the Resources Portlet are also described.
Importing from a Course Content Import (CCI) cartridge will import content that was previously in the Handouts and Bookmarks portlets into the new Resources portlet. When viewing an imported cartridge in the CCI portlet, the following changes were made in the Manage Content view:
Content that was shown previously with a "Handouts" document icon
still has the same icon, but the rollover text displays "Resources" instead.Content that was shown previously with a "Bookmark" flag icon
is now shown with a "Resources" document icon
(including the rollover text stating "Resources").Content that was either a Bookmark or a Handout previously will now only show the single Resources icon
(and rollover text) instead of two icons.
When a Faculty or Administrator user imports a Deep Linking media type for Learning Tools, it is now imported as a Resource rather than a Bookmark or Handout.
The following table describes the actions in the Resources portlet that are logged in Usage Statistics. Not all actions are logged, only a subset of them. The icon and text listed below each action in Usage Statistics are shown in the middle and right columns. The Usage Statistics link displays in the sidebar if it has been enabled in Site Manager (access Framework settings and select the Site stats option on the drop-down list at the top).

When upgrading from older versions of JICS, Bookmarks and Handouts portlets will be migrated to be Resources portlets. When this occurs, previous Usage Stats entries will NOT change at all. They will still display "Added Handout" or "Deleted Bookmark Set", etc.
However, any new Usage Stats entries after the migration to the new portlet will display "Resources" instead of "Bookmarks" or "Handouts". So, for portlets with activity before and after the upgrade occurs, there will be two different sets of actions, one for Bookmarks/Handouts, and another for Resources.
The name of the portlet will continue to appear in the logs and will not change as a result of the upgrade. If a Handouts portlet happened to be named "Handouts", it will be migrated to be a Resources portlet still named "Handouts". That name will still appear in the portlet name-based rows (i.e., "Viewed Handouts Portlet").
Because Resources replaces Bookmarks and Handouts, the Bookmarks database table is no longer in use. This table previously stored the Global sidebar links on the Site Manager page. Now these Global sidebar links are stored in a new Sidebar Links database table.
Whenever a Resources portlet is deleted for any reason, all its data is deleted automatically, and the following data is also deleted:
All sets in the portlet
All resources in the portlet
All files attached to file-based resources (UploadFile rows are also deleted, and in the File Server, the file itself will get a .DELETED extension.)
