Learning Tool Features and Procedures
A Learning Tool option is available in the Add Assignment drop-down menu in Coursework. After selecting your course in Coursework, click the Add Assignment button and select the Learning Tool option on the drop-down list. Clicking this option displays the Learning Tool Library screen, which shows various icons in the Deep-linking tools and Regular tools sections according to the tools your institution has obtained.
Selecting a deep-linking tool launches the tool and imports settings into the assignment section of eLearning. Selecting a regular tool launches the assignment settings in eLearning. Once those are set, the tool will launch for tool-specific settings.
Faculty and Administrator roles need to have the appropriate permissions to use the Add, Edit, and Delete functions on the Learning Tool Library screen (see the following screen example). A popular Learning Tool is Cengage. An eLearning Cengage Implementation Guide is available on MyJ in the Process Guides section of Resource Center > Jenzabar eLearning > Documentation & Resources.

The ability to add, edit, and delete learning tools is only available to Faculty and Administrator roles if they have specific permissions that are assigned in Site Manager. After selecting Global portlet operations and then the Learning Tools portlet, the permissions for Global user roles display.
If Faculty and Administrator roles have the "Can Add Tools" permissions set to Yes, they can add and edit a learning tool.
If the "Can Share Tools" permission is set to Yes for one or both roles, when they add a tool, they can mark the tool as shared, which enables other users in those roles to add that tool to create a Learning Tool Assignment.
If the "Can Manage All Tools" permission is set to Yes for the Administrator role (recommended), then that role can delete a learning tool.

If you don't have permissions to add a learning tool and you want a tool added, you can request the addition. Below the Don't see your learning tool listed? heading at the top of the Learning Tool Library screen, click the contact your administrator link to communicate your request.
How To
After selecting your course in Coursework, follow the steps below to add a new learning tool if the learning tool you desire is not listed (and has been obtained by your institution).
Click the Add Assignment button and select the Learning Tool option on the drop-down list.
On the Learning Tool Library screen, click the Add a learning tool link at the top.
On the Learning Tool Configuration screen, enter information in the Basic tool info section.
Note
To add an image, refer to the Using Images for Learning Tools. To share this tool, click the Share this tool with other JICS members checkbox below the Description field.
Scroll down and enter data in the Connection Information section. This information should be copied exactly from your tool provider.
Note
If the LTI version selected is LTI 1.3 and the tool being added is deep linking, click This is a Deep-linking learning tool checkbox below the Tool Public Keyset URL field.
Enter information in the Tool display section to define how to display the tool.
Optionally, click the Advanced setup drop-down arrow to expand that section and enter information.
Click the Save your new tool button at the bottom of the screen.
The tool is added to the Learning Tool Library.
Use Images for Learning Tools
On the Learning Tool Configuration screen, users have the option to save an image to associate it with a learning tool. Uploaded images will appear with the tool name in the Learning Tools Library. For the best results, we suggest using square images that are 133 x 133 pixels. They must be in either a GIF or JPG format.

This image is displayed in the following locations in Coursework:
The Learning Tool Configuration screen for adding or editing a Learning Tool
The Learning Tool Library screen (after adding a new Learning Tool)
The Add/Edit Assignment screen for a Learning Tool Assignment
After an image is uploaded and saved in the configuration, when it is displayed anywhere on the site, it is resized to fit the expected dimensions.
Images can be replaced on the Learning Tool Configuration screen in the Basic tool info section by clicking the Replace image button near the image and selecting a different image. Images can also be deleted on the same screen in the Basic tool info section by clicking the Delete button (red trash can icon) near the image. Clicking the Save changes button at the bottom of the screen saves the changes.
