A budget officer is a person or position in your organization who is directly responsible for one or more accounts (line items) in the budget. Each budget officer is represented by a unique eight-character code (four columns with two characters per column) that must be created before budget officer defaults can be assigned.
By creating budget officer codes and assigning them to individual accounts, you have created a tool that helps you hold individuals accountable for specific line items on the budget. Budget officer codes serve the following purposes:
· Accountability: The person or position that is accountable for a line item is identified.
· Security: Account security can be based on budget officer codes.
· Reports: Reports that group the accounts together for each budget officer can be created.
· Hierarchy : Budget officer codes can be structured to reflect the management levels in your organization.
If you are configuring your system, fill out the Budget Officer Codes worksheet.
