The Source Code (up to 5 alphanumeric characters) is defined on the Source Definition window and further defines a Source Type.

|
In Admissions, the Source Type used in conjunction with the Source Code allows you to determine the marketing effort that is most valuable or the brochure that is sending the most positive message to prospective students. Source codes must be defined after source types since the source codes are secondary definitions of the source types. |
Source Codes should be defined after Source Types since the Source Codes are secondary definitions of the Source Types. Each Source Code is defined under a primary definition of a Source Type (examples). As mentioned above, this allows your office to run statistics on very specific source codes (i.e., Sept. Open House, Dec. open House, March Open house, etc.), compare each of these specific source codes, or run statistics comparing all open houses (the primary source type for the above source codes).

Jenzabar University advertises in three issues of The New York Times Education Supplement in the academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring). The administration office of Jenzabar University would like to track the inquiries received from each individual issue as well as a grand total of inquiries from all issues. One source type (NYTS) could be established along with three source codes, (81 - Fall NYTS; 82 - Winter NYTS; and 83 - Spring NYTS) to further define the source type. After the 01-02 year is complete, a statistical report could be run on the individual source codes (81, 82, and 83) and/or the complete inquiries from the NYTS source type. |
You can also maintain the total cost of a source code and the number of distributions.
|
|
Using The New York Times Educational Supplement, source code 81 cost $1,200.00 and there was one distribution. By defining cost, you could run comparison statistics on a cost of a particular source code versus the inquiries received from that source code. |
Five (5) Source Code and Source Date columns are provided on the Candidate tab of the Maintain Candidacy window. Sources 1 and Dates 1 columns are for the initial contact. Sources 2-5 and Dates 2-5 columns can be used for additional contacts by the candidate. Sources 6-10 and Dates 6-10 are available via ELITE PAINT.

If the inquiry/application that is being processed through the Individual Submission Detail window has a default Source defined for the application in campus portal (JICS), the first open Source column displayed (i.e., 1-5) is populated with this default source. If Sources 1-5 columns are already populated, the default source will be placed in the Source 1 column and the Source 1 and corresponding Date columns will have a gray background to indicate that the values in these columns are different from the database.
