Registration Configuration Tab (Registration Configuration Window)

This tab of the Registration Configuration window contains most of the key configuration options that determine how the software handles registration controls, repeat courses, the process for recalculating academic records, class and grade lists, schedules, transcripts, course components, etc.

Group Boxes and Columns

Open Enrollment allows students to register after the add/drop deadline. Early Exit allows students to complete a course before the term ends. Together, the two features allow students to take courses at their own pace. Open Enrollment and Early Exit work well with the Competency Based Education feature, too, which is suited to self-pacing.

If you use Open Enrollment, then student course history dates are based on the registration date and the Max time to complete field.

Begin Date in Student Course History

If the student registers before the section's start date: The section's start date is used for the student's begin date.
If the student registers after the section's start date: The student's begin date is calculated based on these selections in this tab:

Day of the Week (first selected day after the student registers)
The next day after [the student's] registration
The next business day after [the student's] registration

End Date in Student Course History

If the student-section is Open Exit: The student's end date is the date the grade is entered.
If the student-section is not Open Exit, the student's end date is calculated from the student's registration date and the section's Max Days Duration field.

Use Open Entry

This checkbox enables the Open Entry feature.

Use Open/Early Exit

This checkbox enables students to complete courses before the end of the term.

Default number of calendar days an Open Enrollment course can be registered before the end of the term

Use this number picker to set how late in a term a student can start an Open Enrollment course.

Parameters for the automated recalculation process

Enter a value between 1 and 5.

This date-time readout is refreshed every 10 seconds, so you can always see when the last recalc (either manual or automatic) was run.

This display is updated by changes to Registration Configuration or any other changes that affect academic records, current or historical.

If this number is not 0 when a recalculation is complete, open the Application Log to find errors that are causing records to be skipped.

Enable Add to Special GPA

Select the Enable Competency Based Education button to turn on the Competency Based Education feature. When you do, the Competency Based Education tab appears. There, you configure the feature. See the Competency Based Education Overview topic for more information.

How To

1. On the J1 Desktop Registration Configuration window | Registration Configuration tab, find the Open Enrollment group.

2. Select the Use Open Entry checkbox.

3. If you wish, select the Use Open/Early Exit checkbox.

4. Select a number for the Default number of calendar days an Open Enrollment course can be registered before the end of the term.

5. Select a number for the Default maximum number of calendar days a student has to complete an Open Enrollment course.

6. Select a radio button for when you want open enrollment courses to start: Day of the Week, The next day after registration, or The next business day after registration. If you select Day of the Week, select which day of the week.

1. On the J1 Desktop Registration Configuration window | Registration Configuration tab, scroll to the bottom of the window.

2. In the Competency Based Education group, select the checkbox for Enable Competency Based Education. The Competency Based Education tab appears on this window.

1. Open the Registration Configuration window.

2. Click the Registration Configuration tab.

3. In the Scholarship GPA group box, select the Enable Add to Special GPA checkbox to allow the necessary windows and columns to appear within the module.

4. Select the Add to Special GPA checkbox on one of the following windows to identify the courses that will contribute towards the scholarship GPA:

§ Catalog Master

§ Section Schedules

§ Grade Table

§ Register by Student

§ Transfer Entry

§ Student Course Details

§ Student Information

§ Student Inquiry

5. Select the Eligible for Scholarship checkbox to identify the students who are entitled to this feature.

6. Define the criteria that will be used to identify a students level on the GPA Tiers Definition window. When the scholarship GPA update is performed, students will be associated with their respective level or tier.

1. Open the Registration Configuration window to the GPA/Repeat Logic tab. You can learn about each setting in the GPA/Repeat Logic Tab topic.

2. In the Transcript group box, select or clear checkboxes to determine whether in-progress courses, edit masks, grades, and various course components are included on the transcript.

3. In the Repeat Formatting and Special Formatting group boxes, determine how repeated and forgiven courses, special grades, and credit hours are formatted on the transcript.

4. In the Career GPA Config group box:

a. Enter a Short Display Label and a Long Display Label for the career GPA.

b. Select any or all of the Print Total checkboxes to print the career GPA at the end of each term, subterm, or division on the transcript.

c. Select the Truncate setting (or deselect it to round off GPA calculations), and select the Number of Decimal Places for the truncated or rounded GPA.

5. In the Alt1 GPA Config and Alt2 GPA Config group boxes:

a. Select the Use Alt1 GPA checkbox if you need an alternative GPA to supplement Term and Career GPA.

b. Select the Use Alt2 GPA checkbox if you need a second alternative GPA.

c. For each alternative GPA you've selected:

i. Enter a Short Display Label and a Long Display Label.

ii. Make selections for the Print Total, Truncate, and Number of Decimal Places columns.

6. Click the Save button on the main toolbar.
