This window allows you to view and edit course component values, which you must have if you are selecting the Validate checkboxes in the Registration Configuration window where you define how the course code is constructed.
These configuration settings on the Registration Configuration tab of the Registration Configuration window are used to identify the use of the course components that have been defined in the Course Components window. The number, which is not editable, will list all six available course components that could be used.
The Course Code in all tables in J1 is stored in a 30-character column. For courses where ORG_CDE = ‘*LOCAL’, these 30 characters are divided into 6 components of 5 characters each. The J1 code that processes courses always uses the definition indicated in the Course Component Definition group box. This means that the course code as defined in the sample screen would be stored in the database as "ART 1029 001 L " (i.e., [ART space space][1029 space][001 space space][L space space space space][space space space space space][space space space space space]).

You must use only alphanumeric characters for course components, as some of the non-alphanumeric characters can be mistaken for string-formatting information and some characters like single quote and double quote have special meaning as string demarcation. |

A text description must exist for each defined component and should be self-explanatory for the component. |
The length of the course component is entered here for each valid description. |
You may select the validation for each course component by choosing the appropriate checkbox. For example, if you utilize components 1, 2, and 3, these checkboxes would be selected while the remaining 4, 5, and 6 would not be validated and therefore will remain cleared.

You may choose whether to leave specific course components empty by selecting the appropriate checkbox. If the course component is left empty, it will still validate if the course is allowed to be empty. |
