Compare Functionality of SEVIS

When you click the Compare Current and History button on the View History/Generate Report tab of the International Students and Exchange Visitors window, the system compares the data in the SEVIS current tables and the selected set of rows (based on the Next Reporting Date) in the SEVIS history tables to determine the information to be reported to SEVIS since the last reporting date.

It is recommended that you select the Errors Report checkbox and then click the Compare Current and History button. The compare process occurs, and you are presented with a report displaying information about changes since the last report for which required data are missing or data for which the format is incorrect. This provides you with information that needs to be completed or corrected before you are ready to report changes to SEVIS. It is assumed that you will repeat this process until there are no errors or only insignificant errors for changes that do not have to be reported in this reporting cycle.

Once the errors are resolved, you should also select the SEVIS Update Report checkbox to view the changes that the system is generating for this report date.

When you are sure your data is correct and you are ready to print the report (Real-Time Interactive only) and enter the changes into the SEVIS website, you should select the Final Run: Copy Rows to History checkbox. Selecting this checkbox triggers the following actions:

·       Attempts to create transactions for the differences in information found in the SEVIS current tables and the SEVIS history tables.

·       For each transaction created, copies the data associated with that transaction to the SEVIS history tables for this report date.

·       For transaction rows not created, does not update history tables with any data associated with that transaction but displays errors on the Errors Report. Usually, transactions are not created because a required data element is missing..

·       Clears all Print Form checkboxes (= No) in the SEVIS current tables.
