Course Authorization Groups are used to determine which faculty members have permissions to conduct course authorizations and what abilities the faculty members have as related to course authorizations. Note that prior to setting up course authorization groups, you must first configure course authorizations.
Faculty members can also be given course authorization permissions in campus portal (JICS). However, careful consideration should be given before allowing schedule conflict authorizations in the Course Authorization portlet. For example, if you allow a faculty member to grant capacity authorization to a student, that authorization stays in place regardless of how many students are subsequently enrolled. If the classroom only holds an additional 4 students, there may be 6 authorizations granted.
