The Gainful Employment Report is no longer required, but some schools track gainful employment. |
The Gainful Employment (GE) Report is required for schools with active programs as of July 1, 2015 that are classified as those that lead to gainful employment in recognized occupations. This report is required in order for schools to continue to be eligible to participate in Title IV federal aid programs.
New Gainful Employment reporting regulations take effect July 1, 2015. The new report is different from the original report. The original report regulation was struck down by a court decision and it is now obsolete.
The GE Report provides basic information about students that are actively enrolled, have withdrawn, or have completed GE programs at your institution. It also includes information regarding their federal and private loans and any institutional financing they may have received. This data provides the Department of Education with the ability to determine if students seeking such programs are gainfully employed upon completion along with other analysis of such programs.
These programs include training for students to become licensed or certified to be a teacher. |
All students who are actively enrolled in, withdrew from, or successfully completed a gainful employment during the specified financial aid award year must be reported. A financial aid award year begins 7/1 of a year and ends 6/30 of the following year. PowerFAIDS and Financial Aid Manager define an award year based on the lead year, i.e., 2010 for the 2010-2011 award year. The GE Report requires that both years be reported in the following format, 20102011.

In order to successfully generate the GE Report for any award year to be reported requires that schools are fully operational in PowerFAIDS for the specified reporting award year. |
The report requires that the Office of Post-Secondary Education (OPE) Identifier be used for each branch campus for which you are reporting students. The OPE ID is 8 digits with positions1-6 being the main institution and 7-8 identifying any branch campus. If there are no branch codes, then 7-8 is always "00".
