Category Component 1 Window

This window is used to enter your organization's category component 1 codes that make up gift categories.

You may want to set up some standards that help you identify the component's meaning and that add meaning to certain letters and numbers as "building blocks" when setting up these codes. You should also note that the Components 1 are broken down into more detail than the other examples given. There are no rules, so it is up to your organization as to how these are assigned.

You may start the code with the letters BG to identify a building, followed by a letter indicating the campus (M = Main), followed by a number to specify the actual building.  Using this scheme, you can tell that BGM01 indicates a building on the main campus and building 01 may indicate the Administration Building (or another building to which you assign the number 01).

If you plan to sub-divide any gift category code by using additional codes, ensure that these codes are within the same range. The use of ranges is very important in the configuration of reports.
