At times, you may find it necessary to copy sections from term to another.

The course offerings for the Fall term may be very similar each year. Instead of creating new sections and entering schedule information section by section, you may want to copy the information and then make adjustments as necessary. |
From this window, you can select multiple rows and then choose Copy Course from the right-click or Options menu to open the Target Year/Term/Subterm window to select options for copying the course.
This Copy Courses to New Term option allows you to copy any section along with its Section Schedule and Faculty Load table rows from one term to another. This option performs a copy of the rows in the Section Master table, the Section Schedule table, and the Faculty Load table from one year and term to the selected year and term. The new term rows are identical to the previous rows except for the items described below.
You must copy parent courses first. If you attempt to copy a child course for which the parent does not exist in the new year and term, you will get an error message and the course will not copy. The program changes the Year and Term codes to reflect the new term.
The following changes are made to the Section Master columns:
· The program initializes the following Section Master columns to zero: Course Enrollment, Pre-registration Count, Current Count, History Count, and Waitlist Count.
· The Section Status column is set to O to indicate that the section is open for enrollment.
· The Course Request Number column is given a new, unique number.
· The Changed Enrollment flag is set to N.
· The Grades Entered column is set to N.
· The First Begin Date column is set to Year Term Table Term Begin Date.
· The Last End Date column is set to Year Term Table Term End Date.
· The Census Date is set to Year Term Table Census Date.
· The Course Duration is recalculated based on the earliest and latest dates in the Section Schedule records for this new section (it will be the duration of the Term Begin Date and Term End Date from the Year Term table).
The following changes are made to the Section Schedule columns:
· The Begin Date column is set to Year Term Table Term Begin Date.
· The End Date is set to Year Term Table Term End Date.
· The Import ID column is set to zero. This column is used with the Astra Schedule interface.
The advantage of using this function to create sections for a new term is that it reduces the amount of data entry. However, it will not use any of the defaults from the Catalog Master table that changed from the previous term. Since Catalog Master columns may not change much from year to year, this may not be an issue; however, it is a factor you should not ignore.
Remember that you should make any necessary changes to newly created sections before beginning to register students. Many of the columns from the Section Master are written to the Student Course History rows for students registered for the course.

If you registered five students and then changed the tuition hours on the Section Master, the first five students would have different values for tuition hours than the students registered after the change was made. |
You may run the option to copy sections at any time, and you may also copy sections from any year and term to any other year and term. In other words, you are not restricted to copying sections from a past or current term only to a current or future term.
