You should enter student responses to a survey prior to generating groups. |
A survey group consists of ID Numbers of survey respondents who answered identically on a specified list of survey questions. Survey groups are generated by specifying which survey and questions are to be evaluated and then executing a process that builds lists of ID Numbers with the same combination of answers to the specified questions. These lists are survey groups. Once generated, survey groups may be used as the basis for making room assignments in Residence Life.
This window allows you to generate, view, and work with the groups of students generated as a result of student responses and the survey's definition. When the survey groups are generated, each is assigned a Group Sequence number by J1.
After you record student survey results or record your own information about students in a survey format, you can use the results to generate groups of students. When you choose the Generate Groups option, J1 puts each student in a group along with other students who have given the same answers to a set of questions. This allows you to match students with certain types of characteristics for residence hall assignments.

If you use a question about sleep habits, you could avoid putting a student who stays up until midnight and sleeps until 9 a.m. with one who wants to go to sleep by 10 p.m. and sleep until 7 a.m. |
