Credit Type

Credit Type is one of three components that make up a grade on each Student Course History record:

·       Grade Scale Code

·       Credit Type Code (examples)

·       Grade Code

A Grade Scale Code and Credit Type Code are required on every Catalog Master and Section Master row. After a Grade Code is entered on a Student Course record, the combination of Grade Scale Code, Credit Type Code, and Grade Code (as defined on the Grade Table Definition window) is used to determine how each Student Course record contributes to the student's Term GPA and Career GPA. This means that Student Course records can be marked with a specific credit type code to indicate course work of a special nature.

Credit Types can be used for Final or Mid Term grading periods. Certain course hours can be omitted when determining part-time/full-time status by assigning a credit type code (like Audit) to those courses. When defining the credit types, you must specify if the course having that credit type should be excluded from part-time/full-time status.

On the Credit Type Definition window, up to three Credit Type codes can be flagged to receive special processing (summary column). All student hours in courses marked with one of these Credit Type codes will be accumulated separately on the Student Term Summary by Division table.

As Credit Types are defined, consider the valid grades that will be associated with each credit type along with the following:

·       Do you want to exclude this credit type from Part-time/Full-time hours enrolled? You may exclude student courses with certain credit types from the PT/FT status calculation.

·       Do you want to include course hours from this credit type in a Student Division Master table summary column? You can flag up to three of your valid credit type codes to receive special processing. After you have identified these codes within the system, all student hours in courses marked with one of these credit type codes will be accumulated separately on the Student Term Summary by Division table.

·       You must enter each Credit Type Definition before the Grade Table is defined. Your policy on Repeat courses may impact your Credit Type Definitions.

On the Courses window and the Courses (Non-Traditional) window, Grade Scale appears on two subtabs of the Courses tab. On the Master 1 subtab, in the Grade Related group, it represents a Final grading period. However, on the Grading subtab, each grading period has its own grade scale assigned.
