Defining Subsidiary Groups

A subsidiary group is simply a list of your Subsidiary Control accounts. Subsidiary groups control A/R statements and updates. The AR Subsidiary Group Control window allows you to add or change subsidiary groups. You can add or change groups at any time and you can create as many subsidiary groups as you want. A subsidiary group can consist of as few as one Subsidiary Control account and as many as all of your Subsidiary Control accounts.

Since subsidiary groups control the statement and update process, it's helpful to look at the different ways you may want to run statements. The following Subsidiary Control accounts listed below are used for this discussion.

Monthly statements can be run that omit the Damage Deposits account. The example below shows the subsidiary group that we would use for these statement runs.

A sample subsidiary group contains only the statement accounts. Since the Damage Deposits account is omitted from the monthly statement run, the status codes of our Damage Deposits transactions will not get updated. Therefore, we need at least one subsidiary group that contains the Damage Deposits account. We might create the subsidiary group listed below and use that subsidiary group to occasionally close the damage deposit transactions.

The DD Subsidiary Group includes only the Damage Deposits Subsidiary Control account.

Finally, we might create a subsidiary group that includes all of the subsidiary accounts. We might occasionally want to print statements or register using all subsidiary groups. The example below shows a subsidiary group that includes all of the subsidiary accounts.

The AL Subsidiary Group includes all of the Subsidiary Control accounts.

As you implement your system, define just a few subsidiary groups and then add more groups later as needed. You might begin with subsidiary groups that are similar to our example: one subsidiary group for statements, one subsidiary group for non-statement subsidiaries, and one subsidiary group that includes all subsidiaries. You can easily add or modify subsidiary groups in the future.
