Authentication

Overview

J1 Desktop offers two ways to authenticate users:

·       Standard or Database Authentication

·       Integrated Authentication

Installation Options

During J1 Desktop client application installation you must select from the following:

·       "Standard" authentication

·       “Integrated” authentication

·       “Integrated_loginprompt” authentication

Configure the Global J1 Desktop Authentication Mode

The global J1 Desktop authentication mode must be set. To view the global J1 Desktop Authentication mode for your institution, open the J1 Desktop Common module and access the Maintain Config Table window. Locate the following configuration setting:

Module = 'TL'

Function = 'GLOBAL_VARIABLE'

Characteristic = 'EX_AUTH_MODE

Possible values for this setting are S (Standard), I (Integrated), and M (Mixed). The default is Standard.

This setting will be stored in the Authentication registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Jenzabar\J1\<your J1 Desktop version>\Application by the installer, preventing users from being able to alter this setting. The software provides for “mixed-mode” authentication, meaning that the institution can have client machines that use standard authentication, some using integrated, and some using integrated with users receiving a login prompt.
