This window allows you to add, view, modify, and delete Advising Requirement Codes that will then be associated with courses. It is intended for quick setup of requirements. If more detailed information is needed for each requirement, that information is maintained in the Maintain Advising Requirements window in Advising.
If your institution does not have a license for Advising, use this window for creating your Advising Requirement Codes. The Advising Requirement Codes that you define here must be for a Cluster Code of C (Course Requirement) or CC (Cumulative Credit).
Each requirement represents a unique course. It resides on the Catalog Master, the Section Master, and the Student Course History tables. If the requirement code is entered on the catalog courses, the value will default to the corresponding sections and student course records.
Usually one requirement code corresponds to a catalog course number; however, the following exceptions may apply:
· A course's number may change over the life of the institution.

The course catalog may list "Freshman Comp I" as ENG-100 for a number of years and then changes to ENG-141. A student has taken ENG-100 and is now registering for ENG-141. You would classify ENG-141 as a repeated course even though the course catalog components do not match the previous course (ENG-100). |
· Cross-listed courses have different component values for the same code.

"Intro to Statistics" is cross-listed
in the course catalog as SOC-230 and ECO-230. A student has taken
SOC-230 and is now registering for ECO-230. You would classify
ECO-230 as a repeated course even if the course catalog components
do not match the previous course (SOC-230). The requirement code
handles situations where different catalog course numbers represent
the same course. One requirement code is created for each course
(such as "Intro to Statistics"). Then that requirement
code is assigned to each catalog course number that represents
that course (such as ECO-2320 and SOC-230). |
