Why the Need to Recalculate?

During Gift Entry, you can control when summary tables are updated to reflect the giving amounts. The gifts can be updated in the summaries as soon as a gift is saved, or you can run the recalc process at a later time to update the summary tables from any unsummarized transactions. The recalc process also can be interrupted at any time and restarted to complete the process.

There are two types of situations in which you may need to recalculate:

·       If you manually make adjustments to giving data using any of the data editing utilities available on your system, you may need to recalculate. Examples of these tools include InfoMaker or a database manager such as SQL, etc. Because summary tables are not updated when data is changed using these utilities, detail data and summary totals can get out of sync.

·       If the program that you use to enter gifts ends abnormally without allowing the current gift to be saved properly, you may need to recalculate. This may occur due to a network failure, a power outage, or breaking the connection to the server by turning off a PC, each of these happening prior to saving the gift.
