Action

An action (examples) is defined on the Actions window and is either a merge document (letters, e-mail messages, or labels) or an item (e.g., make a phone call, follow-up with e-mail) that can be placed on a person's To Do List and that they perform as part of their responsibilities. An action is defined using an action code, which consists of five alphanumeric characters and a corresponding description.

·       Each action can be characterized by start and end dates, as well as the choice to generate a letter/e-mail message immediately or at a later time.

·       Each action produces an item (such as a follow-up phone call, note, letter, visit, e-mail message, fax, etc.) on the To Do List. A group of actions (action list) can be assigned to a person and will be automatically updated by Daily Procedure.

J1 Desktop provides a default value of MERGED for an action created by selecting the Update Notepad check box on the Merge Document Definition window. If you attempt to define an action with the value of MERGED, the following message displays when you save: "The MERGED action already exists in the ACTION table and is a default value provided in J1 Desktop. Please choose another value for Action."

If you are not seeing actions that you would expect to see, request your administrator to ensure that you have the proper permissions set in the Notepad Users window.
