The SMTP Relay Configuration window allows you to view and maintain relay server and e-mail/SMTP server information. You must properly configure relay and SMTP server information using this window if you want to take advantage of e-mail notification functionality in J1 Desktop.
All J1 Desktop e-mail notifications are relayed to your institution’s e-mail/SMTP server by either J1 Client Application Services or ASPEmail. In the Relay Server group box, select either the Relay E-mail Messages with ASPEmail radio button or the Relay E-mail Messages with J1 Client Application Services radio button.
If you choose Relay E-mail Messages with J1 Client Application Services, you have the ability to send e-mail messages from anywhere in the J1 Desktop application that supports e-mail notifications. By selecting this option, you are required to install J1 Client Application Services on the relay server machine you select in the Relay Server Name list box. You can also specify how often J1 Client Application Services relays e-mail notifications by entering the number of minutes in the Relay Interval field.
If you choose Relay E-mail Messages with ASPEmail, you have the ability to send e-mail notifications from a limited number of areas within J1 Desktop. In other words, there is not much functionality in J1 Desktop that supports e-mail notifications using ASPEmail. If you select this option, you must install ASPEmail on each client machine that will relay e-mail notifications.
If you would like to relay e-mail notifications securely and your e-mail/SMTP server supports SSL, select the Relay e-mail messages securely by using SSL? checkbox.
This feature is only available when you select the Relay E-mail Messages with J1 Client Application Services option. |
You must enter your institution’s e-mail/SMTP server name in the SMTP Server Name column. This is required for both Relay Server options. The optional SMTP Server Port column is only available when you select the Relay E-mail Messages with J1 Client Application Services option.
By entering an e-mail address in the Default Reply To/From Address column, you are providing J1 Desktop with a default e-mail address to use if an e-mail notification does not already have one assigned.
Jenzabar recommends that you enter an e-mail address in this column as most e-mail/SMTP servers require a from/reply to address. |
Relaying to your e-mail/SMTP server can be done within or outside of your network. It is likely that user credentials will need to be provided if your SMTP server is cloud-based or hosted outside of your network (like gmail or live.edu). Therefore, if your e-mail/SMTP server requires user authentication, select the Include user credentials when relaying e-mail messages? checkbox and then enter values in the User Name and Password columns.
This option is only available when you select the Relay E-mail Messages with J1 Client Application Services option. |
