When the associated prompt window opens for reports and you choose to Preview or Print the report and click OK, the software performs a second connection to the database via the ODBC data source specified in the DataSource registry entry. The DataSource registry entry is found under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch of the registry where the J1 Database profiles are located for the database chosen when logging into J1 Desktop.
When the preview/print option is completed, the code disconnects the ODBC connection. The Install Wizard currently generates a default ODBC datasource by the same name as the database profile specified when installing the software. This default ODBC datasource will connect to the same database as the database profile specified. The Install Wizard defaults that value into the new DataSource registry entry.
· If you need to create a new database profile in the registry to connect, for example, to a Play database and will be running the customizable reports in Advising against that database, you must create a new ODBC datasource connecting to the Play database and then create a DataSource entry in the registry and enter the name of the new ODBC datasource.
· If you are previewing or printing an Advising customizable report and the "Unable to get datasource information from registry" message appears, the DataSource entry does not exist in the branch in the registry as specified above.
· If you are previewing or printing an Advising customizable report and the DataSource entry does exist in the registry but the value is empty, the Select ODBC Data Source window will appear prompting you to select an ODBC datasource for the report.
