This window allows you to add, view, modify, and delete NSC Term codes.
The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) considers each academic term either "standard" or "non-standard" or "non-traditional." The NSC Term Definition window is used to designate which academic terms at your organization are standard, which are non-standard, and which are non-traditional. The term codes in the Term Code column are stored in the Term Definition table.
Standard term information is usually reported three (3) times during the term: beginning of the term, middle of the term, and end of the term.
Non-standard terms usually include terms that have different begin and end dates than the standard Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Short terms such as a three-week mid-winter term is a non-standard term. Different reporting requirements exist for standard and non-standard terms. For example, the NSC report does not include status dates.
Non-traditional terms may be a set of four-week courses that begin in November targeted for the non-traditional student. When a term is marked as a 'non-traditional' term, you can negotiate with NSC on whether to report information for that term.
Non-traditional terms in the NSC refer to terms used for cohorts of students in programs such as Degree Completion programs. For example, you may have your standard terms FL - Fall, SP - Spring, and SU - Summer; however, in addition, you may have terms such as 10 - January Cohort Starts, 20 - February Cohort Starts, etc.
If you select the Non-Traditional Term checkbox on the NSC Term Definition window, students registered for courses in these non-traditional terms do not get reported as "Withdrawn" if you submit an NSC report with a Report Date that may be just after a non-traditional term has been completed but does not include a term in which the student is registered but which is not yet being included for NSC reporting.
· The Term Begin Date is populated with the earlier Student Course History Begin Date for the student's registrations in that term. This represents the beginning of this student's enrollment period for this term.
· The Term End Date is populated with the latest Student Course History End Date for the student's registrations in that term. This represents the end of this student's enrollment period for this term.
