SMART Grant Eligible?

The National SMART Grant was created by the Higher Education Reconciliation Act of 2005 (HERA) and is awarded to third- or fourth-year students who, among other qualifying criteria, must be majoring in specific bachelors degree programs determined by specific CIP (Classification of Instruction) codes.

This checkbox allows you to mark CIP Codes as being eligible for the National SMART Grant. Initially, when you run the DSU/DDU, any CIP Codes that are currently deemed eligible as of May 2006 are selected. As other CIP Codes are added to the list or removed from the list, you must update the SMART Grant Eligible? flag accordingly. If a student is majoring in an area that has a CIP Code associated with it that is marked as SMART Grant Eligible?, then the student may be eligible for the National SMART Grant.
