The Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) code is a six-character code used to identify programs that generate federally mandated reports.
An additional two characters have been included an as extension to the CIP Code and can be used to differentiate programs within a state or locality for reporting purposes. These extended codes can be defined on the Table Details table through the Maintain Table Values window. The CIP Code Extension appears on the Certification Definition Window. In CIP Code drop-down lists, codes are displayed sorted by Used in IPEDS Reports, CIP Status, and CIP Code.
