Setting Up for NSC Reporting

The first time you report enrollment with Jenzabar J1, complete all setup before you begin. It will save you time and help make your reports accurate.

Types of Setup Tasks

Setup for NSC reporting falls into these categories:

Contacting NSC

Contact the NSC to arrange a contract to report to the NSLDS using NSC as your reporting agent. Be sure to discuss both enrollment reporting and degree verification.

Standard and NSC Windows

Set each of these windows to capture your enrollment information accurately. You can find each window in the Activity Centers search on My Workspace.

J1 Desktop Standard Windows

Rules Based Updates (RBUs)

Set up these RBUs in the Update Definition window.

Required

·       NS1: FICE Code

·       NS2: Branch Code

·       NS4: Foreign Student Status

·       NS5: Graduate Level

·       NS6: Data Block

·       NS7: FERPA Block Indicator*

·       NS8: Financial Block Indicator*

·       NS11: Ethnicity and Race

*NS7 and NS8 are for the degree verification report. The others are for the enrollment report.

Optional

·       NS9: Classification

·       NS10: Good Student

·       NSCLR: Clear Special Status

·       NSCLRDTE: Clear Special Status Date

A student's NSC Special Status can be changed in the Student Information window, and the change can be populated in several tables the Cross Table Student Update Information process. See the  Cross Table Student Information Update Window topic for details. But these RBUs, when run after that process, clear the Special Status and its date.

Advising Windows

If your school uses J1 Advising, set up these windows.

Window

Task

Registration Configuration | Registration Configuration tab | For Program Enrollment Use drop-down

Select either Advising Requirement Trees or Program GPA Profile.

Institutional Requirement Trees

(if your school uses Advising Requirement Trees)

Set up Free Elective (*) and Administrative (#) buckets.

Maintain Program GPA Profiles

(if your school doesn't use Advising Requirement Trees)

Set up profiles for your school's majors, minors, concentrations, and certifications.

Degree/Aim Cross Reference

Map aims to majors, minors, concentrations, and certifications.

Compute Student Progress

Update students' progress toward their programs.

If your school doesn't use J1 Advising, you'll use the Create Transmittal File process to create transmittal detail rows, but you won't be able to populate the Program Enrollment Status.

After your setup is complete, you can work on the first run for a term. We recommend starting with a summer term.
