Non-Course Requirements

Some programs have requirements that are not courses. Non-course requirements might include examples like these:

To use Rules Based Update with non-course requirements, there is some setup to do.

Satisfying the Requirement

When the Compute Student Progress process runs, it evaluates the non-course requirement. If the criteria are satisfied, the requirement is marked as met for the student.

How To

1. Create a non-course advising requirement type.

a. Open the Maintain Advising Requirement Types window.

b. From the Options or right-click menu, select Add Row.

c. In the Type column, enter 'NONCS'.

d. In the Description column, enter 'Non-course requirement'.

e. In the Cluster column, select 'RBU' from the drop-down list.

f. Edit the Print Order, Priority, Display, Print, and Comment columns as you wish.

g. Click the Save button on the main toolbar.

2. Create an advising requirement.

a. Open the Maintain Advising Requirements window.

b. From the Options or right-click menu, select Add Row.

c. Enter a code in the Requirement column.

d. Enter a Description.

e. In the Type drop-down list, select 'NONCS'.

f. In the Cluster drop-down list, select 'RBU'.

g. Click the Save button on the main toolbar.

3. Place the advising requirement on an institutional requirement tree.

a. On the Institutional Requirement Trees window, search for a Year or a Requirement and click Find Now.

b. In the Available Requirements group box, in the Type drop-down list, select ???NONCS??? and click Find Now.

c. Select a requirement from the resulting data table, and drag it to the appropriate requirement tree.

d. Select Update Type and Update Code.

e. Click the Save on the main toolbar.
