Degree History Table

The Degree History (DEGREE_HISTORY) table stores one row for each degree that a person has completed or is pursuing. Faculty members usually have several Degree History rows to track their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Student may have one or more completed Degree History rows. Current students have at least one Degree row that is in progress. You may store up to 99 degrees per person.

The Degree History table is significant because it stores majors, minors, concentrations, certifications and honors. Since a student may have several Degree History rows, the system needs a way to know which row contains the student's current degree (and thus the current majors, minors, etc.). The Student Master table contains a DGRHS Sequence # column that indicates which Division History row is current. You set the DGRHS sequence # when you add or change a person's Degree History (Student Classification Definition).

When reports are created, you can link the Degree History table to the Student Master table by using the Name ID and the DGRHS sequence # columns. The report will use degree information from the current Degree History row.

Sequence Number

The Sequence Number is a code used to distinguish separate rows in the Degree History table. When entering multiple Degree rows for the same individual, you must assign a separate sequence code for each item.

When working with the Prerequisite table, the Sequence Number is used to distinguish the course(s) that may be taken as alternatives.

BIO443 has a Sequence Number of 1 with a prerequisite course of BIO310 AND a Sequence Number of 2 with a prerequisite course of BIO330. A student may choose to take ONE or the OTHER and is not required to take both prerequisite courses.

The sequence numbers for prerequisite courses are automatically assigned. This sequence numbering is also used for corequisite and prohibited courses.
