Courses and Textbooks Window

This window is used to associate valid textbooks with courses so that textbook lists can be displayed in campus portal (JICS) portlets and also printed as part of the student's schedule. The courses as displayed are based on the number of components the school has chosen to be used for textbooks on the Registration Configuration window.

During implementation of Registration, the course components that will be used to control the textbook list are selected in the Components to Use group box on the Registration Configuration window. The Courses and Textbooks window is then used to associate textbooks with courses (the granularity determined by the configuration of components used for textbooks) on the Textbook Table. If you want to be able to have different books for sections of a course taught by different professors, then you need to select the same number of components for textbooks that you use for sections in the Components to Use group box on the Registration Configuration window. An unlimited number of textbooks can be assigned to each course.

You may add or delete Textbook Table entries at any time. After you have entered the required information in both the Textbook Definition table and the Textbook Table, textbook information can now be displayed in campus portal (JICS) portlets and printed on textbook lists on student schedules. The program that prints the student schedules takes each Student Course History and uses the Textbook Table to find the books for the course and then finds the title, author, and other information about the textbook.

When you initially open the window, the Year/Terms and Courses tree defaults to the last used Year/Term. When you select a course, textbooks for that course are displayed in the Textbooks for <Course> grid. If there is a discrepancy between the number of Components to Use for Textbooks and the number of Components to Use for Sections designated in the Registration Configuration window, the following message is displayed: "Note: You have X components used for Textbooks but X components for Sections. There is not a one-to-one match." This message is informational only and is not intended to imply that an error has occurred.

If you have configured 2 components for Textbooks and 4 components for Sections, the message would read: "Note: You have 2 components used for Textbooks but 4 components for Sections. There is not a one-to-one match."

Years/Terms and Courses

This Tree displays all available Years/Terms and defaults to the last used Year/Term.
