Course Security Process

If the course components on which security is based in the Registration Configuration window have been appropriately identified, users of update programs see the entire list of courses but will only be able to update those for which they have been given access.

You may wish to have your academic departments responsible for entering grades for their courses. This function can grant a departmental user access to only those courses within their department while restricting them from all other courses.

If your institution uses a location code as one of your course components, you may want to set up course security on the location code component and the department component. Suppose the department code is the first course component and the location code is the fifth course component. The Course Security Components selection on the Registration Configuration window would be 1 and 5. On the Course Security window, enter the User ID and Security 1stCourse Component and/or Security 2ndCourse Component.

Course security differs from other course component functions in two significant ways:

·       Only two components can be used for course security.

·       They do not have to be adjacent.

Course security is activated whenever any row is added to the control table. You should plan to make entries for all users prior to the time you will be using J1. Those persons who must have access to all courses can easily be given global access by leaving the course components blank. The following windows use the course security feature:

·       Student Registration

·       Courses and Non-Traditional Courses

·       Grade Entry

·       Grade Changes

·       Student Course Details
