IPEDS/GRS Class Code

This column allows you to link your organization's classification codes to the following IPEDS/GRS class codes:

IPEDS Class Code

Description (taken from the IPEDS EF-1 Form)

First Year (F1)

A student who has completed less than the equivalent of 1 full year of undergraduate work; that is, less than 30 semester hours in a 120-hour degree program.

Second Year (SE)

A student who has completed the equivalent of 1 year of full-time undergraduate work; that is, at least 30 semester hours but less than 60 semester hours (in a 120-hour program) or more than 900 clock hours but less than 1,800 clock hours.

Third Year (TH)

A student who has completed the equivalent of 2 years of full-time undergraduate work; that is, at least 60 semester hours but less than 90 semester hours in a 120-hour program.

Fourth Year (FO)

An undergraduate who has completed the equivalent of 3 years of full-time undergraduate work; that is, at least 90 semester hours in a 120-hour degree program.

Unclassified (UN)

A student taking courses creditable toward a degree or other recognized postsecondary credential who cannot be classified by academic level. For example, this could include a transfer student whose earned credits have not been determined at the time of the fall report.
