A variety of criteria exists for grading courses. Some schools use a simple format (A, B, C, D, F) while others award plus and minus grades (A+, A, A-, B+). Others may use a numeric grading system (1 - 100). For this reason, Registration provides a Grade Table that allows you to define your institution's grades and the attributes of each grade.
The Grade Table contains three major components:
· Grade
The Grade Table contains an entry for each valid combination of Grade Scale, Credit Type, and Grade. For each combination, you define the attributes that the programs will use to calculate GPA and generate reports. You are allowed to use a blank credit type when creating a Grade Table row. Although a blank grade code could be used for Grade Table rows, it should be done only with special credit type codes (never both blank credit type and blank grade code).

Care must be taken with blank grade codes so they do not get selected for inclusion in an Academic Update calculation. |
Each of the entries on the Grade Table controls how the Academic Record Update process will update the Student Course History with that grade.

A Student Course History with a Grade Scale of CU, Credit Type of LT, and Grade of A will be added to the attempted hours, earned hours, and GPA hours. Each credit hour for an A course receives 4.00 quality points. Notice that all grades add to attempted hours, while only passing grades (A, B, C, D, P) add to earned hours. In addition, only letter grades add to GPA hours; therefore, only letter grades require an entry in the Quality Points column. |
The Grade Table is also used by the Financial Aid Manager module's Calculate Satisfactory Progress activity to calculate Attempted Hours, Earned Hours, and GPS Hours for Financial Aid SAP. These are detailed in the next section (Grade Table Attributes).
The following Grade Table attributes can be selected in Registration and will have a direct impact on statistics that are generated in Advising:
