A relationship is used to reference a connection or association of one person, group, or organization to another person, group, or organization. You can store multiple relationship rows for any one ID Number.
The relationship code (example) defines particular relationships between two ID Numbers in the database. Associated with the code are a description, a corresponding relationship code, and a corresponding relationship code description. Relationship codes are defined via the Relationship Definition window and stored in the Relationship Definition table. Once relationship codes are defined and when relationship associations are made between two ID Numbers, the Relation Table stores a row for each relationship.
The relationship code can be used in Development to determine those students attending the organization who are second generation, in Financial Aid to award alumni endowment scholarships to children of alumni, and in Admissions to indicate that an alumnus is the father/mother of an Admissions candidate. If your organization purchased the Development module, Development personnel usually create the relationship codes.
