The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) protects the privacy of student records. FERPA provides students the right to inspect and review their education records and to limit disclosure of information from the records. This act applies to all institutions that are recipients of federal funding and to all persons currently enrolled or formerly enrolled in higher education institutions, regardless of their age or status in regard to parental dependency.
The FERPA Restricted checkbox on the Name Master table indicates whether this particular individual or organization wants their education records and personally identifiable information protected under the FERPA guidelines. This Yes/No checkbox is required.
If the checkbox is selected (= Y), the individual/organization wants the FERPA protection.
If the checkbox is cleared (= N), the individual/organization does not want to exercise their right to FERPA protection. The default value is N.
