Sessions are time frames used in the Student Life module. An eight-character Session Code identifies each Session. Sessions are used parallel to the Year/Term Code combination in the Registration module. Unlike Registration, Student Life is designed to handle any number of simultaneous sessions so that information may be tracked for multiple current and future time frames that may or may not overlap. In defining a session, a session description as well as optional start and end dates are specified along with a Session Status Code used to indicate if a session is the current session or whether the session is inactive and therefore does not show up in windows used to select sessions. Sessions are defined on the Session Definition window.
In order to be used in the Residence Life and Activities, buildings, rooms, and activities must be associated with a Session in which each will be used. In addition, students must appear in the Student Session Assignment table in order to enter housing preferences, roommate requests, and room assignments and to be sent and respond to a survey.
Dates are optional in order to allow you to create sessions to be used as "templates." Configurations of facilities and activities may be copied from the template session to an active session with associated dates.

Each summer you may only have 3 of 10 residence halls in operation. By defining a template session of SUMMER, the three residence halls and their corresponding rooms could be made available each summer by copying from the SUMMER template session to the next active summer session such as SUM15, which might designate a summer session in 2015. |

Before selecting a default Session Code, your organization's sessions must already be defined. |
This default value for Session can be selected from the Default Session drop-down list on each of the following tabs in the Student Life Configuration window:
This code defaults into the Session Code column on windows within that area; however, you can change the value at any time.

The Module-Wide Default Session you specify is used on certain windows maintaining information across the Student Life module. For example, the Module-wide Default Session is used when maintaining Session Buildings and Session Rooms. |
