Use this window to designate the FICE and Branch Code to be used as defaults when generating new student records for NSC reporting purposes and to identify the Secure File Transport Protocol (FTPS) information for your school. Because NSC reports group the individual student records by FICE and Branch codes, every student record must have the correct codes.

Many schools have only one FICE/Branch designation and will report all students under the same codes. If you have multiple FICE and/or Branch codes, enter the most common codes as defaults. Use the Rules Based Update to define the rules that will populate the correct data on the student data records of the students who are to be reported under different FICE/Branch codes. Even though more than one combination can be defined and displayed, only ONE default Branch can be identified.
If your organization has only one FICE code but has programs with very different academic terms or mandatory periods of attendance (such as a medical school), you should consult with the Clearinghouse. They may advise you to generate separate data for the different programs. If this is true, you can differentiate the programs through the use of a "dummy" Branch code. If you have only one Branch, use "00" as your Branch code.
The Secure File Transport Protocol (FTPS) information for your school can be identified so that your files can be submitted through the automated feature. When the Send by Secure FTP button is selected on the View/Send Final File(s) tab (Create NSC Transmittal Files and Final Files window), the login and password entered in the School's FTP Login and School's FTP password columns will be used to access the NSC Secure FTP site and upload your files. To use the NSC Secure FTP site, you must contact the National Student Clearinghouse to obtain a userid and password. More information is available on the Clearinghouse Secure FTP website at https://studentclearinghouse.org/secure-ftp-access/.
NSC and Jenzabar require you to use the WinSCP software from Standard Networks to facilitate uploading to the NSC Secure FTP site. To download and install WinSCP, go to the https://winscp.net/eng/download.php
Enter the number of weeks in the program's Title IV academic year.
The Rules Based Update functionality can be used to identify your results (such as the FICE or Branch Code) and the rules that will be used to determine if a student fits the criteria. If you use the Rules Based Update functionality, follow these steps to verify your NSC configuration:
1. Confirm that all NSC Update Type and Code combinations are available on the Update Definition window.
2. Assign appropriate permission for Update Type/Update Code combinations to groups on the Update Definition User Access window.
3. Define the Resulting Codes and their rules on the Update Results and Rules window.
