Constituency Code

This alphanumeric code is used to identify a relationship a donor has with your organization. The code can be up to two (2) characters.

Each donor must have a default constituency code specified on the Maintain Donor Constituency Codes window by selecting the appropriate Default? checkbox.

The column label is sometimes abbreviated to "Const. Code".

Constituency codes are defined on the Constituency Code Definition window. They are used for CAE reporting. A donor may have more than one constituency code with your organization. For accounting purposes, however, each gift that is entered may have only one constituency code assigned to it. If a donor is both a parent and an alumnus, you must determine with which relationship the gift is being given.

For annual report purposes, you will most likely want that donor to appear in both the parent and alumni sections, which is possible by selecting participation by constituency code and listing any gift any person with that relationship has given. For easy reporting of constituency codes by donor, use the Flattened Constituency Code table.

You must define in the system all of the possible constituency codes that your donors may have with your organization. These relationships are used to break down giving and report it to CAE. You may want to sort reports by constituency codes and devise your codes accordingly. If you want all trustees to appear first in the report, code their constituency code beginning with A.
