More information about OPT is available on the website of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS). |
Optional practical training (OPT) is authorization for employment in the USA issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) for temporary work directly related to the field of study of the international student or exchange visitor. It can be part-time or full-time and may be done during specific times before or after completion of studies. The total amount of time that a student/exchange visitor can work under OPT is 12 months, regardless of how many degrees they receive, unless they leave the United States for an extended period between periods of study.
