FERPA Category Definition Window

You can define categories for which to set FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) permissions used by your school. You can define a category for each data area you wish to track. Jenzabar provides two default FERPA categories: FINANCIAL and STUDENT. You may use these FERPA categories, add additional categories, or delete the default FINANCIAL and STUDENT categories and define your own categories.

CRM Parent

If you are licensed for CRM Parent, the categories defined here are used in the Set FERPA Permissions and View My Student portlets.

·       FERPA Category values which are Active and for which Show on Web is selected may be associated with Display Options in the View My Students portlet.

·       In the View My Students portlet options, schools can associate one or more links and data areas to a category. You can define a category for each data area and link, or you can create a category that governs multiple links and data areas.

·       Only Active categories with Show on Web selected are used when evaluating a parent's permissions in the View My Students portlet. All other categories are treated as if the parent does not have access to the information.

·       The Set FERPA Permissions portlet presents to students only the FERPA Categories marked as Active and Show on Web.
