Data Block Indicator

The Data Block Indicator is a checkbox on the NSC Edit Student Data Records window. The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) calls it the Directory Block Indicator.

The checkbox is used to inform the NSC of whether a student has exercised their right under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) to block the release to third parties of their name and/or dates of attendance. It will not block reports relating to students with loans. It is necessary, however, to ensure that NSC will keep you in compliance with FERPA as it makes reports on your behalf to other schools relating to the transfer of their former students to your institution.

Populate the Data Block Indicator column with Y for each student who currently has requested a block on name and dates of attendance and an N for each student who does not currently have such a block.

The Data Block Indicator column on the NSC Edit Student Data Records window is populated by Rules Based Update for the NS6 NSC Data Block Indicator rule in the Update Results and Rules window.

Next to the Data Block Indicator is another privacy field for NSC is the Privacy Block setting. It's for privacy compliance other than FERPA.
