Defining Standard Occupational Classification Codes

Use the SOC Definition window to maintain standard occupational classification codes and descriptions for your organization. Jenzabar-provided SOC codes cannot be deleted or edited, however, you can deactivate any codes you do not want to appear in the drop-down list on the Organization Positions window | Regulatory Reporting Information section as well as change their order of appearance in the list. You can also create and maintain new SOC codes.

Access this window by selecting "Maintain Definitions" from the right-click menu while your cursor is on the SOC Code drop-down list on the Organization Positions window.

Columns

A two-digit code made up of a major SOC group. Once saved, the code cannot be edited.

A four-digit code that classifies the occupation into a minor, broad, or detailed group. Once saved, the code cannot be edited.

A name describing the SOC code. New entries your organization creates can be updated.

A numeric value defining the order in which the code appears in the SOC Code drop-down list on the Organization Positions window. The display order can be updated for all values, however, inactive values automatically appear below the active values.

Select to activate or deselect to deactivate the SOC code. Inactive values automatically appear below the active values in the SOC Code drop-down list on the Organization Positions window.

How To

1. Access the SOC Definition window.

2. Select Add Row from the right-click or Options menu.

3. In the SOC Major Code column, enter the two-digit code for the major SOC group. Once saved, the code cannot be edited.

4. In the SOC Detail Code column, enter the four-digit code that classifies the occupation into a minor, broad, or detailed group. Once saved, the code cannot be edited.

5. In the Description column, enter a name describing the SOC code. This can be updated later if necessary.

6. Optionally, in the Display Order column, enter a numeric value for the order in which this value should appear in the SOC Code drop-down list on the Organization Positions window.

7. The Active? checkbox will be selected automatically. If you don't want to activate the code yet, deselect the checkbox.

For Jenzabar-provided values, you can update only the Display Order and the Active? checkbox. For values your organization creates, you can update the Description, Display Order and the Active? checkbox.

3. Make the edits.

4. Save.

Only values your organization has created can be deleted.

3. Click on the row to select it and choose Delete Row from the right-click or options menu.

3. Update the number in the Display Order column. SOC codes will appear in ascending order with inactive values automatically appearing below the active values.

4. Update the Display Order for any other SOC codes as needed.

5. Save.

2. Locate the code you want to activate or deactivate.

3. To activate the code, select the Active? checkbox.
