Use Aim Labels to identify the kinds of trees you will assign to students as aims. Aim Labels correlate to the way your programs are designed. For example, at a liberal arts college or university, a four-year undergraduate degree program typically consists of three requirement components—general education requirements, major requirements, and general elective requirements. If each component is built as a stand-alone tree (aim), an aim label is needed for each, in order to identify the curriculum component that the tree represents. At a community college, a two-year undergraduate degree or a one or twoyear certificate program generally consists of course requirements constructed as a single tree, requiring only one aim label. The same is typically true of institutions which specialize in one field, such as architecture, art, or medicine.
Aim label Codes and Descriptions will appear on the default Jenzabar Graduation report (one of the degree audit reports delivered in J1 Desktop), as well as in the Course Needs and Degree Progress feature in the JICS Campus Portal. Aim Categories allow you to classify each aim label for use by the Registration module and Texas State Reporting functionality (for institutions which have purchased the Texas State Reporting license). Core describes aim label(s) used for general education tree(s); Program describes aim labels used for major, concentration, certification, minor, and elective trees; Developmental describes aim label(s) used for developmental tree(s); and Other describes aim labels used for any other types of trees. The Print Order controls how aims will sort in windows and on J1 Desktop – Advising Configuration Guide 12 reports, as well as in the JICS Campus Portal, and should be a numeric value between 10 and 100 (10 will sort first, 100 will sort last).
The following columns are used to define Aim Labels:
