Student Year Reporting Table

The 1098-T form is created using the data contained within this table. The IRS uses the 1098-T data to determine if a student is eligible to receive the Hope Scholarship or Lifetime Learning tax credit.

Each of the numbered boxes described below are part of the 1098-T form and cannot contain negative values. When the value calculated has a sign (+, -) opposite the expected value, a 1098-T Error Report entry is produced. If all results are positive, a row will be created in the Student Year Reporting table, and will include the values and pertinent calculation methods listed below:

 Box 1 (Payments Received for qualified tuition and related expenses)

Boxes 1, 4 and 5 contain transaction history amounts for transactions with dates occurring in the year being processed, whose offset flag is not set to O, and 1098-T eligibility flag is populated. Additional box-specific criteria are listed below.

 Box 4 (Adjustments made for a prior year)

 Box 5 (Scholarships or grants)

 Box 6 (Adjustments to scholarships or grants for a prior year)
